Bill leads slow Illinois cross country team
The Big Ten’s elite cross country runners fell to Illinois sophomore Jason Bill, and so did some of the NCAA’s best on Friday at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C.
Bill finished fourth in the field of 154 runners that featured several runners with past success. Despite Bill’s success, the Illini team finished 14th in the 22-team field.

Illini charge past Iowa, pick up 5th straight shutout
Coach Janet Rayfield stressed prior to this weekend that she wanted her team to improve on the road as they entered Big Ten play. Her team responded Friday night as the Illinois women’s soccer team defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes 2-0 in Iowa City.
After finishing last year 1-6-1 on the road, the Illini have improved to 2-1 away from Illinois Field.
The win propelled the Illini to a 6-2-1 record, 2-0-1 in the Big Ten and extended their shutout streak to a school-record five consecutive games.

Volleyball winning streak ends at nine in Wisconsin
On Saturday there was a black cloud hanging somewhere over Champaign, and the black cloud followed the Illinois women’s volleyball team to Madison, Wis.
Both the football and volleyball squads dropped games to the Badgers — games where the Illini could have squeaked out victories. Though the football game was depressing, the squad was not riding a nine-game win streak into the game. The streak had been so long that it was surprising to hear that the netters had dropped theirs in a four-game thriller between two evenly matched teams.
