End militarism at UI

Put barricades around the buildings. Have the police ready with riot gear and tear gas. Call out the National Guard. Student PEACE Action is a nonviolent organization that has neither injured a soul nor caused a penny's worth of property damage since its inception in 1999, yet James Mortland would have you believe otherwise. "Not only does this protest present an imminent danger to military personnel, but also to structures associated with the military on and near campus." Please disregard the tantrums of the local village idiot. SPA will be holding a rally in protest of militarism on campus. However, it will be taking place on Oct. 28th, as another RSO has already reserved the quad on the 7th. Military personnel and ROTC students are welcome; in fact, we would like to invite them. In fact, consider this your official invitation.

Our objections are not with the individuals involved these military organizations. We understand that many students join ROTC because of the financial aid it provides. Others join because of the duty they feel to protect our nation. We believe that if we stopped wasting our nation's wealth on the ineffective "Star Wars" missile shield and a new generation of miniature nuclear weapons, we would be able to send many more of America's youth to college. We believe that militarism on our campus is in direct conflict with the principles of scholarship, justice and progress that the University seeks to instill in its students. That is why we are seeking to end militarism within the University. Professor Francis Boyle and Urbana City Council member Danielle Chynoweth will be speaking about this at our peaceful rally on Oct. 28th. We invite everyone, ROTC or otherwise, to come join us. Don't worry James, we promise not to hurt you.
