University Provost Richard Herman has called for a closed meeting with all tenured faculty of the College of Communications. The meeting will take place today in the Union, and the faculty will discuss the provost's read of an evaluative committee report done on the college this past summer.
Ronald Yates, dean of the College of Communications, said the meeting will consist of the provost talking about the current structure of the college.
"This report consists of recommendations," Yates said. "There is no predetermined outcome."
However, many rumors are circulating regarding the future of the college and this closed meeting has raised suspicions.
"There are certain things to which only tenure faculty are eligible," said journalism lecturer Jennifer Follis, when asked why non-tenured faculty were not invited to the meeting.
"I'm an academic other, as a lecturer," she said. "I don't know the rationale (behind not allowing non-tenured faculty to attend)."
Still, Yates said he remains positive and believes that the current issues with the college can be repaired. "I don't think the problems are insurmountable," he said.
