Illinois women's basketball head coach Theresa Grentz's contract extension
was approved by the University Board of Trustees Thursday.
The extension runs through the 2007-08 season. The Board of Trustees approved the contract based on the recommendations of University of Illinois Chancellor Nancy Cantor and athletic director Ron Guenther. Grentz's base salary for the 2003-04 season increases from $152,800 to $160,000. Factoring in other compensation like television and radio services, Grentz will make $260,000.
Grentz, entering her ninth year at Illinois, is the winningest coach in school history with a record of 144-98. Last year Grentz became one of eight coaches to win 600 games.
"I am pleased we were able to extend a contract to Coach Grentz," said Guenther. "We both discussed a national championship at Illinois when she came here. She has accomplished a great deal since 1995, but we haven't completed the job yet. I feel under Coach Grentz's leadership, this is possible at Illinois."
