Students pay for department politics

On Thursday, Sept. 11, I and a few hundred other students walked into Political Science 150 and were greeted by three strangers on the stage of 112 Gregory Hall. There was no Professor Alan Arwine to be seen. There won't be a Professor Arwine anymore — he was terminated from his job and we will instead be "team taught" by other members of the faculty. Professor Arwine was a great lecturer and understood how to present his material in a way that connected with students who had different backgrounds and motivations for taking the class. I am apprehensive about the quality of instruction I'll receive from the team of political science faculty — they weren't prepared to teach this course and are probably teaching others right now. The situation seems underhanded and the students are the ones suffering from what is probably just departmental-academia politics.
