Thanks for the choiceIn light of Abel Valdivia's denouncement of the administration's response to Tuesday's events (in Wednesday's letters section), I would like to note my support of the administration's response. Yes, this is a tragic time, but I feel it is important to keep the University running. Those of us who have attended classes have had the opportunity to discuss our reactions and vent our frustrations. Chancellor Nancy Cantor made it clear that instructors were not to penalize students for absence, allowing students, like Valdivia, to stay at home as they feel necessary. By continuing classes without expecting attendance, the administration is allowing students and faculty to determine their own needs, rather than imposing specific action. Understandably, many students will want to stay home to hear news and be near the phone to hear from loved ones, but other students will want the opportunity to meet with their peers, and the administration's response allows for both needs to be met.
