Football
Illini football faces off against Iowa
At 1-8, the Illinois football team uses every motivation it can get to finish its final three games strong — having fun, spoiling other teams' seasons, getting to sing its fight song when the Illini finally get another win. This week's motivation? All of the above — and all while being surrounded by pink.
Women's Basketball
Orange and Blue Scrimmage allows team to show off skills
Preseason is intense, conditioning can be rewarding, but isn’t exactly enjoyable. Drills can become tedious. The annual women’s basketball Orange and Blue Scrimmage held at Assembly Hall is a break from the routine and a way for the team to have fun while working to the team’s goals, winning.
Men's Basketball
Men's baksetball ready for Assembly experience
During practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, Assembly Hall didn’t feel like home to the Illinois men’s basketball team. Junior forward Roger Powell knows that will change for Saturday’s orange and blue intra-squad scrimmage.
Volleyball
Illini volleyball hits the road to face tough Big Ten duo
If there was ever a time to hold back the mental anguish and physical pain built up throughout the fall season, it is now. The Illinois volleyball team will go on the road to face perennial powers Ohio State and Penn State. The women are also jockeying for a top position in the Big Ten standings.
Soccer
Illini, seniors finish at home against Butler
Tonight’s game against Butler not only brings the regular season to a close for the Illini women’s soccer team, but it also will be the last home game for the senior members of the 2003 squad. Meghan Kolze, Jennifer Smith, Kelly Walker and Tiffani Walker will play their last regular season game at home on Senior Night in front of the Illini faithful and will be recognized for four successful years.
Women' s Swimming and Diving
Illini ride confidence into last home meet
The women’s swimming and diving team hopes to keep its momentum alive as they take on Southern Illinois and Iowa State Saturday at IMPE. The squad is coming off a strong performance at the Northwestern Relays where they finished in second place, along with four team victories.
Hockey
Hockey aims to redeem themselves
The Illini hope to rebound this weekend when they travel to Kent, Ohio to face off against 3-2, unranked Kent State. Illinois has won all 13 games against Kent State since they came to the league in 1994. However, after a heartbreaking overtime loss last Saturday, the Illini need to prove they belong ranked No. 2 in the polls.
Wheelchair Basketball
Men's wheelchair basketball prepares for weekend tourney
The Illinois men’s wheelchair basketball team take on a National Basketball Association sponsored team — the Milwaukee Bucks — this weekend. The game marks the beginning of their season, which will hopefully continue until the team achieves their goal of winning the collegiate title, senior guard Grant Mizens said.
Men's Cross Country
Men's cross country heads to Big Tens
Wisconsin will try for their fifth straight Big Ten title on Sunday while nationally ranked No. 6 Michigan and No. 7 Ohio State will battle the reigning champion. The Illinois men’s cross country team hopes to finish next in fourth place at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships on Sunday held in East Lansing, Mich.
Women's Cross Country
Women look to move up from last year
All eleven Big Ten women’s cross country teams will come face to face on Michigan State territory this weekend at the Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich., for the 2003 Big Ten Cross Country Championship meet.
Wrestling
Wrestling coach dreams of Olympic glory
Perched on the third floor of Huff Hall, Illinois assistant coach Jeremy Hunter stretches before wrestling practice. Hunter is more than a collegiate assistant coach though; he is a viable contender to make the 2004 U.S. Olympic team in the 121-pound division.
