San Diego Chargers come to Champaign
In a flashback to last season, the Illinois football team will be sharing its facilities with another professional football team this week — only this time it’s not the Chicago Bears.
In the face of wildfires and thick smoke engulfing the San Diego area, the San Diego Chargers will fly to Champaign tonight to prepare for Sunday’s game against the Bears in Chicago.

Nkemdi gets chance to walk-on basketball team
Junior forward Fred Nkemdi’s jump shot is not what impressed Illinois head coach Bruce Weber.
Nor is it Nkemdi’s rebouding ability. Or his defensive play.
“He’s a big body and we told him the first thing, if your a big body kid you got a better chance,” Weber said.

Men's Cross Country
Hoerr slowed, but not stopped by NCAA
In the fourth meet of the Illini’s season, freshman cross country runner Trent Hoerr finally ran in his first college meet, finishing second on the team and 34th overall of the 222 runners at Oklahoma State.
The NCAA took away any simplicity in Hoerr’s transition from high school to college running, causing him to miss the first six weeks of the season. During those six weeks, the NCAA reviewed one of Hoerr’s high school English classes.

Women's tennis opens eyes at Regionals
The Illini showed what they’re made of at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Tournament in Kalamazoo, Mich. The Illini had five players compete in the main draw for singles and four teams in doubles. The number represents the most Illinois participants the women’s program has ever had.
