Illini clench first place
The Illinois Women's Club Volleyball team garnered first place honors last weekend. In Miami of Ohio's Early Bird Invite, the Illini defeated Indiana University in the semifinals before taking on Miami of Ohio.

Illinois proved to be too much for Miami of Ohio, as Illinois took the match.

Illinois defeated Washington University on Oct. 7 in Bearfest 2000. The team will resume action at home on Oct. 28.

The male spikers:

Championship secured
The Illini men's club volleyball struggled a bit in the beginning, but were able to come away from the third annual Illini Classic with a championship.

Illinois came out of pool play with two wins and one loss to the Illinois alumni team. The Illini defeated University of Illinois Chicago in the quarterfinals. In the final match, Illinois again faced the alumni team, but this time with different end results. Illinois was victorious, 26-24, 17-25, 15-12.

Men's rugby:

Illinois vanquished by Ohio State
Ohio State was too much for the men's rugby team, as Illinois was defeated on Saturday.

The Illini came out strong defensively, but offensively couldn't retain the ball. Ohio State broke through with a try 20 minutes into the first half, leading at halftime, 18-0.

The second half was similar to the first, with Ohio State dominating. Ohio State took advantage of lapses in the Illinois defense to repeatedly score. Illinois couldn't recover, and lost the match 63-0.

The team will resume home play against the Scott Air Force Base team at 1 p.m. at the complex fields located at the corner of Lincoln and Florida avenues on Saturday.
