Roommates get 'duped' for gameshow

Have you known your roommate or best friend for two, four, maybe 10 years and both of you think that you know each other more than anyone else? The Illini Union Board is inviting you to prove it.

This Thursday the IUB will host "Dupe Your Roommate," a game show that will test just how well roommates and best friends really know each other. The game show will consist of approximately 20 pairs of contestants competing against their roommates or best friends, to see who knows who better. Each pair of contestants will go through a couple of rounds where they will be asked questions about their roommate's or best friend's hobbies, habits, etc.

The winner for each pair will be determined by whoever accumulates the most points. Each pair will have a winner and every winner will be awarded a blind date. The winner has a choice to either go on the date themselves or pass the blind date over to their friend.

As of last Wednesday, the game show had approximately 40 contestants for the game show. Each contestant was chosen based on an entry form that he or she had filled out. However, the IUB is still looking for more contestants as well as for more dates.

To sign up as a contestant or blind date, e-mail Melanie Lang at mlang@uiuc.edu as soon as possible. On Thursday, all dates and contestants are to meet in the Courtyard Cafe of the Illini Union at 5 p.m. The show will begin at 8 p.m.

"I think it will be a really fun event because we have people joining in from all over, like fraternities, sororities, athletes and just other individuals of all ages and majors," Lang said. "Plus, The Planet (107.1 FM, owned by the Illini Media Company, the parent company of The Daily Illini) is sponsoring it and that should appeal to a crowd of all types."
