
| 3-on-1 skirmish a minor pain in the leg for
victim by Mike Gunderson and Jennie Jiang A fight occurred in the lobby of the Florida Avenue Residence Hall the evening of Thursday, Nov. 19. A University student was slightly injured. According to a University Police report, the 18-year-old student was eating in the residence hall cafeteria when he was approached by three men. The men told him to step outside to settle some business. The victim said he did not know the men, but went along with them to the buildings lobby, where they tried to push him outside, the report said. The report stated the victim fell to the ground and the three men kicked at him and punched him all over his body. The three men ran out the lobby door when a resident advisor arrived. Although the victim complained of a sore leg, there were no visible injuries. He was treated and released at Carle Hospital, according to the report. No suspects are known and no other information was available at the time of this report. Three University students involved in a fight received minor injuries when they fell through a plate glass window. The incident occurred Saturday, Nov. 21, shortly after 1 a.m. when a group of seven men began fighting after leaving a campus bar. According to a University Police report, a University Police officer tried to stop a fight between three of the men. The three men fell and crashed through the window at 810 South Sixth St., Champaign. The men received cuts on their faces, necks and hands. The men did not receive treatment but were cited by Champaign police for city fighting. A suspect wanted on a warrant attempted to elude Champaign Police officers early Sunday morning at about 12:45 a.m. The suspect was trespassing at the American Legion, 704 N. Hickory St., Champaign. According to a Champaign Police report, officers followed the suspect off the property. The suspect then ran from the officer. He was caught and arrested. Police officers then learned he was wanted on an in-state warrant. Stephan Garden, 28, of 806 N. State St., Champaign, was arrested in connection with the incident. Early Sunday at about 2:30 a.m., a suspect swallowed drugs in an attempt to elude Champaign Police officers. According to a Champaign Police report, an officer observed what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug transaction at 200 West Maple St., Champaign. The suspect left the scene and was stopped by police officers two blocks away. The report said officers saw drugs inside the suspects mouth. The suspect then swallowed the drugs. The suspect was arrested for obstructing justice and for possession of a controlled substance. Stacy Marrissette, 23, of 919 W. Bradley Ave., Champaign was arrested in connection with the incident. A Champaign man was arrested early Saturday morning for possession of drug equipment after being stopped for riding his bike without a headlamp. According to a Champaign Police report, at about 2:45 a.m. an officer made contact with an individual riding a bicycle on the 1600 block of N. Willis Ave., Champaign, with no headlamp. The subject was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant out of Champaign County. The subject was then arrested and searched. During the search, the officer recovered a suspected crack pipe from the arrestees right pants pocket. The arrestee was then taken to the Champaign County Sheriffs Office, according to the report. Arrested in connection with the incident and charged with possession of drug equipment in addition to the outstanding warrant was David Johnson, 41, of 1514 Hedge Road, Champaign. A Champaign man was arrested Thursday night after driving the wrong way on a one-way street. According to a Champaign Police report, at about 10:30 p.m. the suspects vehicle was pulled over for driving the wrong way on the 200 block of E. Bellefontaine St., Champaign. When stopped, the driver gave a false name to police. The driver was then arrested for the traffic violation, and the police learned the drivers actual name and discovered the driver did not have a valid drivers license, according to the report. The report then stated a search found a small amount of cannabis inside the vehicle. Arrested in connection with the incident and charged with obstructing justice, no drivers license, possession of cannabis, 30 grams and under and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle was Leonard Thomas, 44, of 308 W. Columbia Ave., Champaign. |
