
| Thief fails to steal goods from Kmart by
Amanda Criner and Mike Gunderson A man was arrested Saturday afternoon after store security caught him attempting to take many items for the price of one. According to a Champaign Police report, at about 3 p.m., store security at Kmart, located at 800 Bloomington Road, Champaign, saw the arrestee and two other subjects remove an item from its package and place the item on the shelf. The subjects were then seen placing the contents of a shopping cart into the empty box. The arrestee then proceeded to the store checkout counter and paid the price listed on the outside of the box. After paying for the box, the subjects tried to leave the store, according to the report. The report then said store security detained the subject as he was leaving the store. They examined the box, and found it contained over $700 worth of store merchandise. While the subjects were being investigated, officers found one subject had given a false name and birth date. Once they learned the subjects actual name, police found he had an arrest warrant for him from Missouri, the report stated. Arrested in connection with the incident and charged with obstructing justice, burglary and being a fugitive from justice was Jerome Ford, 58, of an unknown address. An Urbana man was arrested Sunday morning after being caught driving too fast. According to an Urbana Police report, at about 10:30 a.m., the subject was stopped at the intersection of Cunningham Avenue and Country Club Road for speeding. He did not have his drivers license with him. He gave police a false name and when confronted, he admitted he was lying about his name because his drivers license was suspended. Arrested in connection with the incident and charged with speeding, obstructing justice, driving with a suspended/revoked license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle was Korey Montgomery, 24, of 33 Sanibel Drive, Urbana. A Champaign man was arrested Saturday night after driving without headlights led to a drug arrest. According to a Champaign Police report, the subject was stopped for not using headlights. The subject was then found to be in possession of what is suspected to be heroin. Arrested in connection with the incident and charged with driving with a suspended/revoked license and possessing a controlled substance was Preston Massonburg, 40, of 67 Birch Village, Champaign. Champaign Police found crack Monday after they pulled over a vehicle. According to a Champaign Police report, the police made a traffic stop at the intersection of Fourth and Stoughton streets early Monday morning. They arrested the passenger of the vehicle who had a city warrant out for his arrest. When the police searched the vehicle, they discovered a rock of suspected crack cocaine near the passenger floorboard of the vehicle.
