Council votes to hire building architects

The Champaign City Council voted Tuesday evening to hire Gorski Reifsteck Architects to prepare remodeling plans for the City Building at 102 N. Neil St. and the City offices at 713 Edgebrook Drive.

According to a report prepared by city manager Steven Carter, the needs of several municipal departments are not being met in their current City Building offices.

The renovations will allow the city's Neighborhood Services Department to move out of the City Building and into new offices at 713 Edgebrook Drive. Carter wrote that the improvements would provide ample space for the finance, personnel, legal and information technology departments, which will remain in the City Building.

The report stated that the Neighborhood Services department should be ready to move to 713 Edgebrook Drive next summer.
