Protecting women's rights

The Laci Peterson case is a tricky one indeed, and I don't claim to know how it should be handled. I do know, however, that in California, someone convicted of more than one first- or second-degree murder can be eligible for the death penalty. This is clearly why Laci's side is trying for this verdict— so Scott Peterson may receive the harshest punishment. Please don't criticize me for not being more technical; I know little about law.

But I know lots about abortion.

Randall Payleitner's "Double homicide" on April 30 says, "Talk to anyone … involved with an abortion in any way." I'm talking. As a Planned Parenthood abortion advocate, I've witnessed dozens of abortions; I've been with the women right there in the room. I do "have feelings," and I feel delighted that these brave women were lucky enough to have the option of terminating their pregnancy. I'm ecstatic to know that they will go home without the horrible burden of an unwanted child. I'm thrilled to know that if I were to get pregnant tomorrow, I could legally and safely terminate the pregnancy.

I'm pro-CHOICE, not pro-abortion, and this means providing women the ability to make an informed choice regarding pregnancy. I support adoption, and I respect people that carry unwanted pregnancies to term to raise the child. But at least these women had all the choices available to them, thanks to Roe v. Wade.

The saddest thing is that many men seem to be adamantly anti-abortion. However, none of them will ever have the misfortune of becoming pregnant. Essentially, these men aim to take away women's rights. It frightens and disgusts me to think that one day, women may not have control over what goes on in their own bodies because of the almighty opinions of right-wing males like Payleitner.
