Most students might not typically see studying for finals as a fun thing to do, but those who are sick of the usual study places might want to try something different.
Some students, such as Daniel Brucker, senior in ACES, take an unconventional approach to studying.
"Sometimes in between classes I go downstairs and study near the bowling alley/arcade area," he said, referring to the Illini Union's facilities.
Sophomore in LAS David Kikuchi also chooses to study in a unique place.
"I actually like studying at Joe's," said Kikuchi, referring to Joe's Brewery in Campustown. "A group of us did that once and it was a good time."
Some, however, prefer a very quiet space when studying. Libraries, in particular, seem ideal.
Kim Reynolds, administrative aid to the University librarian, named Grainger Library and the Undergrad Library as the most popular places for students to study.
"I would say Grainger is one of the best," she said. "It's very quiet and there is a lot of room. Also, the Undergrad has a lot of chairs and couches available to students."
Laura Avendano, junior in LAS, said she liked to study at the library.
"I like to study at Grainger because it forces me to be really quiet and read," she said.
In contrast, others cannot study well without at least a little bit of noise in the background. Sonal Aggarwal, junior in LAS, felt that she couldn't concentrate in complete silence.
"I guess I'm more of a coffee shop person," she said.
However, Aggarwal said she felt the places on campus were too social for her and she would rather take a trip to Borders Books Music & Cafe, 802 W. Town Center Blvd., Champaign, to get away from campus.
"I like going out to Borders because it seems like nobody is ever out there. That's the problem with coffee shops around here everything is a social thing," she said.
Some students like to study in their residence hall rooms or apartment bedrooms because they appreciate the comforts of home.
"I like to study in my room with my computer and my roommates," said Laura Holstius, sophomore in LAS.
Still, others felt their living spaces can be too distracting.
"I have so many Christmas lights in my apartment, I cannot even try to concentrate," said Ashley Mogged, sophomore in LAS. "Besides, my roommates are pretty loud."
With all the places available for students to study, it seems there is a place for everyone. Of course, you could always follow sophomore in LAS Sean Tovey's lead.
"I just don't study," he said.
